In 2001 and 2002, CV Technologies made history by becoming the first company to successfully complete a U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration) regulated phase II clinical trial with an herbal product. Designed for combating influenza and common colds, COLD-fX® is a herbal extract with multi-active phytochemicals. The clinical trials of COLD-fX® demonstrated a significant preventative effect on influenza and cold viral infections. Specifically, there was an 89% reduction in laboratory confirmed Influenza and Respiratory Syncitial Virus (RSV) infection. In addition in 2003 and 2004, CV Technologies launched and completed the first formal clinical trial in Canada under Health Canada's new natural health product regulations. These major scientific and regulatory milestones are true tests which validate the ChemBioPrint technology platform.

Two fundamental issues are hampering natural health product research and commercialization: lack of evidence-based efficacy, and lack of meaningful standardization. The cooperative and/or synergistic effects of intrinsic multi-active compounds on one’s physiological systems produce the beneficial health effects of natural health remedies. It is indisputable, based on empirical evidence, that many traditional medicines are effective for health maintenance and disease treatment. Yet, very little is known regarding the mechanism of action and the real active ingredients of these preparations.
